Swype Shield
(Design & Concept. Identity. Packaging. Advertising. Copywriting.)
During the cold & flu season, the predominant message in prevention is wash your hands and don’t touch your face. As true as this is, there’s no mention that regardless of how many times you wash your hands or use hand sanitizing lotion, the minute you touch something contaminated, you could infect yourself.
With this flaw in mind, Swype was developed as a solution to kill cold & flu viruses from entering your system through the nose, the place where most viruses enter your body. By avoiding the need to constantly keep your hands cleans, the product has huge potential for markets where handwashing is hard to control (young children) and where there’s a high percentage of foot traffic (travellers).
As a new product confronting an already dominated market, the challenge (besides standing apart from the competition) was how to educate the public on the benefits of keeping your nose clean vs. your hands, as well as the fact that most hand sanitizers kill bacteria and not viruses.

fig.2 - Shelf and tube packaging
fig.3 - Ad campaign poking fun at how competitors portray bacteria and viruses as funny creatures, whereas the honesty of the Swype brand is to point out that reality of what to really be aware and careful of... anyone that could be carrying a virus.
